European universities
Over the last decade or so, beginning with just a trickle, there has been a profusion of continental universities that have begun offering top class undergraduate degrees in the English language. These universities typically offer degrees that compare with those of highly ranked UK and US universities and, in many cases, offer compelling and attractive alternatives from a financial perspective.
In these pages you will find much useful and helpful information that will assist and guide you to an appropriate undergraduate degree. At the Tree Foundation Tutorial College we have consultants who are in a position to advise you as to the best possible degrees at the highest ranked universities in Europe, and, more importantly, what is required to attain a place at one of these sought after universities. Please consider contacting us. We look forward to collaborating with you soon.
Netherlands
The Netherlands is undoubtedly well ahead of other continental European countries when it comes to English-taught undergraduate degrees – there are now a total of 136 English language Bachelors. And many of the universities offering English-taught degrees are very highly ranked globally – of particular note are DELFT and the University of Amsterdam (UVA).
Another extremely compelling reason to seriously think about an undergraduate degree in the Netherlands is the very reasonable annual fees, currently around 2000 euros per academic year, coupled with the excellent quality of life and affordable cost of living. The Dutch university system is also noted for its healthy promotion of intercollegiate collaboration and coordination – different universities in the Netherlands, and different departments of those respective universities, offer interesting opportunities to combine and amalgamate courses. There is also great emphasis on links with industry, government agencies and international organizations, enabling students to undertake internships and job placements, gaining valuable experience while they are doing their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. In fact, in postgraduate Masters degrees it is generally mandatory for a candidate to do a placement, which is typically with a company in the private sector, a government agency, or a NGO – for instance, Greenpeace, IEA, and IRENA.
At the Tree Foundation Tutorial College, we are very upbeat about the future of English-taught undergraduate degrees in the Netherlands. Given the high standards, cutting-edge courses, impeccable organization, links with industry, internships and placements, the Dutch universities are in an excellent position to offer a world-class education to English speakers intent on establishing solid careers in industry and/or academia.
We have consultants who are either currently working at some of the leading universities in the Netherlands or have recently graduated. If you wish to acquire further information and guidance as to how to apply to course at universities in the Netherlands then please do not hesitate to make a request to book a session with one of our consultants.

Belgium
Belgium is, of course, the home of the EU, located in Brussels. Therefore, as a prospective undergraduate degree applicant Belgium presents itself as a truly compelling place to position oneself. An acknowledged hub for international politics, Belgium’s capital Brussels has even more ambassadors and journalists than Washington DC, and is the headquarters of many international businesses and organizations. Belgium’s resident population is also highly international, with around a quarter of the population of 11 million known as ‘new Belgians’ – those from other countries, and their descendants, who have become permanent citizens.
Consequently, there are many cogent reasons to study in Belgium: world-renowned universities, excellent opportunities for international networking, famously multicultural and multilingual cities, a host of regional cuisines and specialties, beautiful countryside, overall high quality of life, and, of course, those fantastic Belgian chocolates.
There are some excellent undergraduate degrees available at very highly ranked universities, such as KU Leuven and Ghent. At the Tree Foundation, we are very well acquainted with the application process to Belgian universities and, moreover, we can advise you as to which are the most suitable for you. Switzerland
Switzerland typically conjures up images of its beautiful lakes and mountains, a country with an efficient political and banking system, and generally somewhere of a very high standard of living. Education wise Switzerland has always been renowned for its finishing schools and hospitality management. This, however, is a very superficial overview of a country that has been, and is, investing very heavily in its knowledge economy – think of some of the most powerful computers in the world and CERN. There are very highly ranked universities such as ETH in Zurich (10th in the world rankings), IMD and St Galen in Lausanne for Masters and MBAs, among many others. Switzerland is undoubtedly an expensive country to live in though the fees for many of the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are surprisingly reasonable. Of recent there has been a notable increase in the number of undergraduate degrees delivered in the English language while some of the most valued Masters and MBAs are nearly all available in the English language.
At the Tree Foundation tutorial college we are upbeat about an education in Switzerland and would strongly recommend it as a viable destination for a number of reasons: firstly, the level of education is extremely high; secondly, the teaching faculties are generally world class and the courses demanding and rigorous; thirdly, there is are very strong ties with industry and so excellent job opportunities; fourthly, the standard of living is unsurpassed; and lastly, qualifications from eminent Swiss institutions carry a lot of weight in a CV.
